Ditch Zoom for FacebookJun 21, 2021
Facebook updated its live broadcasts to include screensharing or adding people as guests. You have many of the same features as Zoom, but all for free!
Use it for Your Business
Before you protest and say this isn’t a new feature: Yes, I know. You have been able to screenshare before but you needed a special plug-in. Now, it’s baked into the platform.
If you’ve gone live recently, you may have noticed a new interface with a whole host of new features. You can:
- Schedule your broadcast: You can schedule a live broadcast up to a week in advance.
- Automatic announcements and reminders: An announcement will be posted to your page or group when scheduled. The announcement even has a “Get Reminder” button to allow them to get notified when you go live. A second announcement will be posted at the scheduled time containing the live feed.
- Rehearse a live broadcast: If you’ve never gone live before, the thought of completely bombing because of a tech issue is panic-inducing. Never fear. Facebook allows you to set up a test broadcast that will only be seen by the admins on the page.
- Go live with a guest: There are some restrictions to this feature, but you can add a guest to your live broadcast for interviews.
With the news screen share feature, you can present slides, a document or other video with ease.
While these features may not be as user-friendly as Zoom, if you want to save some money, it’s a great option. You can even download the video afterward to use for other purposes.
Plus, I would be remiss in not mentioning that live broadcasts are one of (if not THE) best-performing type of posts on Facebook. All your followers or group members are notified when you go live, giving the video a better chance of being seen.
Just because it's new doesn't mean it's worth your time: Is using Facebook Live worth your time?
SURE!: I give it 4 out of 5 thumbs up.
A 4 Rating Means: If you have a solid presence on Facebook, start clearing some time on the calendar to dedicate to it. You will most likely see positive results.
