Instagram Adds Live Rooms

What's Happening:

Instagram added the ability to go live with up to four people at a time – the original account plus three guests. The feature is called Live Rooms, which is probably a side-eye to the new kid on the social media block, Clubhouse, and its rooms.

Use it for Your Business:

Going live with more guests is a great way to increase your reach since the followers of each guest are notified. Since Instagram has allowed you two more guests, you could essentially double your reach for one video.

A great use for live videos is bringing on other podcasters or bloggers to discuss a particular topic of interest to both your audiences. I watched a great session from these ladies this week.

Since the beginning of the global COVID pandemic, everyone from DJs to fitness instructors to Realtors have been going live on Instagram to do what they would have previously accomplished in person. While the Live Rooms feature isn’t a game-changer by any means, it’s the latest in a recent string of upgrades to the live feature on Instagram to support these businesses.

The most notable, in my humble opinion, is the ability to save live videos directly to IGTV. After you end the live stream you’re given the option to download the video or post to your IGTV tab. IGTV videos live in your tab permanently versus live videos which are available for 24 hours.

Just because it's new doesn't mean it's worth your time: Is using Live Rooms worth your time?

Yes!: I give it 3 out of 5 thumbs up.

A 3 Rating Means: You have a 50/50 chance of this trend making a difference. Don’t prioritize it over mission-critical strategies, but it could be worth testing.
