Are You Doing It Wrong?
May 09, 2019Probably not.
I would argue that you’re asking the wrong question.
Social media posting is not a matter of doing it right and wrong. It’s more a matter of inviting in the people that are interested in what you’re offering.
Here’s a question hierarchy that may be more helpful:
1) Am I attracting anyone?
Are you steadily gaining new followers and engagement on your posts?
2) If yes then: Am attracting the right people?
Are they only there for the funny memes or are they interested in family gardening, for example?
3) If yes then: What do I want them to do?
Usually this means get them off social media and onto your blog or email list.
4) If they’re not doing that: How can I guide them there?
What do they want to read about? Can I offer them a free download? Can I host a free giveaway?
Social media is often the start of a relationship. You two can stay casual acquaintances on social media or you can invite them over to your house and get to know one another better by chatting via email or on your website.
Many miss this key step of invitation. Social media is, after all, designed to be social.
