A social media stat to boost your confidence:

According to the Rival IQ Social Media Industry Benchmark Report, the average engagement rate for Instagram is 1.6%. This may sound depressingly low, but it’s actually great news for most of us. 

For example, if you have 500 followers and get more than 8 likes on your post, you are doing better than MOST POSTS ON INSTAGRAM.

Pat yourself on the back. You’re KILLING IT!

To figure out engagement rate for your posts this week, use this equation: 

(Engagement / Posts) / Followers

Total Engagement = Like + comments on all the posts during the time period you’re measuring

Posts = # of posts during the time period you’re measuring

Followers = # of people following your account

For those of us who are math challenged:

1. Divide the total engagements by the number of posts.
2. Take that number and divide it by the number of followers.
3. Move the decimal point two numbers to the right to create a percentage.

Engagement rate is a much better overall health check for your account than comparing single posts.
