Can AI Robots Create All Your Social Posts?

What's Happening

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been included on almost every 2023 social media prediction list I’ve seen.

If you’re wondering, what exactly is AI? I like Evan Armstrong’s definition:

AI is software that uses some form of machine learning to do things we didn’t think were possible.

And, I’d like to add, at speeds we thought impossible.

AI is baked into so much of our software that we don’t even notice that it’s remarkable anymore. Instagram/TikTok filters and effects, web searches, online shopping, smart devices, car safety features, translators, and cyber security are all run by or incorporate AI technology.

The most recent advances in technology are making it possible for what I previously thought impossible – to create credible social media posts.

Use it for Your Business

Before I dive in, I’ll confirm what you may be thinking:

It can’t possibly just do all my work for me, can it?

No, it cannot. Similar to any other result spit out of a computer, you’ve got to confirm with your own human intelligence that it does, in fact, make sense or look good. AI depends on feedback to improve. It’s merely spitting out possible options based on a set of criteria.

I’m a social media manager/writer/graphic designer. Is it going to put me out of a job??

Do not worry. The technology is good, but not THAT good. In fact, these advances could potentially save you tons of time by giving you that crappy first draft that you just have to polish.

Captions

The AI tool that has the Internet buzzing is Open AI’s GPT-3 chatbot. The tool is free to use. However, this could change because Elon Musk owns Open AI and you’ve witnessed what he’s done with Twitter subscriptions. Here’s a great summary if you want to read more about it. Essentially, you can input your specifics and it will spit out your post caption, for the platform you designate, even give you hashtag suggestions. Here’s an example of a post written by the bot.

There are many other, more user-friendly versions of this type of technology.

  • Here’s one for teaser captions, blog titles and email subject lines.

  • Here’s a super fun one for LinkedIn captions. Warning: The copy won’t be good but you can use it for inspo.

  • This one claims it will make you go viral on Twitter.

Images

The latest AI party trick to make its rounds on the socials is Lensa, an AI photo and video editor. They are most popular for their “magic avatars.” You upload several selfies, pay a few dollars and voila! You have a slew of AI generated avatars in various styles. My entire team did it for fun with mixed results. In fact, Lensa has cultivated a rep for it’s very unhuman-looking fails and affinity for its generosity in giving females certain, ahem, assets.

While I don’t see the magic avatars being useful for marketing, I think the technology is incredibly useful for quickly editing photos.

In fact, forget editing. OpenAI again last year made headlines for its DALL-E 2 tool that generates original images from text prompts. While some look life-like, they are obviously digital images; however, I hope it advances to the level that we never have to search for a stock image again. We can just tell the tool what we want and it will create it!

Other Uses

There are so many more examples. Here are just a few:

  • Filters you use on Reels are AI-generated. This creator makes impressive ones and is a great follow if you want to see the latest in AI for creators.

  • This tool will generate your podcast transcriptions in less than a minute.

  • Use an AI chat funnel in your DMs.

  • Lensa and other companies are working on AI video with many uses!

Relevancy Rating

Just because it's new doesn't mean it's worth your time: Is using AI to generate your social content worth your time?

Sure: I give it 4 out of 5 thumbs up.

The two biggest areas I see it saving you time are giving you the inspiration to get your creative juices flowing and giving you a pretty good first draft to edit.
