Follow MakeoverApr 20, 2019
Insta got you down? It’s time for a Follow Makeover.
If you’ve ever thought:
“I just don’t get how people can spend so much time on Twitter.”
“Facebook is just other people’s kids and memes.” OR
“I can’t handle all the beautiful photos on Instagram. Everyone seems so fake.”
I hate to break it to you, but none of these are Twitter, Facebook or Instagram’s fault. You have complete control over what you see on all of these platforms.
It’s time to do a Follow Makeover.
Everyone loves a good before and after. I promise this makeover will be so satisfying, you’ll renew your hope for humanity. You’ll find yourself uplifted after scroll sessions versus shamefully wondering where the time went.
STEP 1: Notice as you scroll how you are feeling. If anxiety creeps in, evaluate why that might be. What did you read or see in the last few posts? If you scroll quickly through your feed, what do you find?
STEP 2: Unfollow accounts that aren’t serving you in this particular season.
I get really geeked about this type of thing because it warms my minimalist heart, but I totally understand that it’s hard to hit that unfollow button. Even if you don’t know the person, it somehow feels like a betrayal.
Let me reassure you, most people will have no idea or even care that you hit unfollow. They gain next to nothing from your follow while you’re giving up a piece of your well-being. Not worth it! This is a practice in self-care. Be brave!
STEP 3: Have some fun seeking out accounts and hashtags to follow that will inspire you.
BONUS: There’s some algorithm mojo you get from keeping your follow-to-follower ratio high. No one knows exactly how it works but, the math computers dub someone who follows a few people but has a much larger following as an “influencer.” No matter what the actual numbers are, it’s the ratio that matters.
