Some new data is out from Later to conclusively declare Reels are now dominating the engagement game on Instagram.
Since Reel’s introduction in August of 2020, the average feed post engagement rate has decreased by 44%. You’re getting nearly half the engagement rate for the same amount of work.
This trend is consistent no matter the type of feed post – carousel, image or video.
Use it for Your Business
While some may take this as bad news, don’t despair. There’s good news to be declared:
The opportunity for reach and engagement growth is exponential if you’re willing to embrace the Reel.
Reels run on a different algorithm than feed posts which makes you much more discoverable. People don’t have to be following you to see your Reels. The Reels algorithm is geared more towards showing you the type of content you’ve expressed interest in by your views, likes and comments.
This is great news for creators! You don’t have to work as hard to be seen by your potential audience. Reels do that job for you.
One Caveat: You have to craft your Reels in a way that makes it obvious to the algorithm who your post is for. You can do this with the keywords in your caption, hashtag use, and consistently posting about your core message (versus a bunch of random topics).
If you’ve been hesitant to incorporate Reels into your content strategy. Start out with one a week. Play with different styles. Find out what works for you and your audience and build up from there.
