What's Happening

Social Media Examiner released its 2021 Social Media Marketing Industry Report. Over 4,300 marketers tell you what they’re focusing on this year.


Use it for Your Business

I will admit I was skeptical. Why is a report of what other marketers are doing relevant to the decisions I make for my clients?

However, after reading through the report, I found it increasingly satisfying. The report helped to justify some of my decisions and solidify some I was questioning.

Here’s a breakdown of the bits I found particularly interesting:

“A significant 88% of all marketers we surveyed indicated that their social media efforts have generated more exposure for their businesses. Increased traffic was the second major benefit, with 79% reporting positive results.”

Put succinctly: Social media can grow your business! It works!!


“A large percentage of marketers find better sales results with more years of social media experience.”

Good News! The more time you invest in sharpening your social media skills, the more sales you’ll get. You are not wasting your time. However, the report notes, these results take time. You will see results, but it may take two years to gain enough experience (and audience) to see significant results.


“Instagram is hot: Seventy-eight percent of marketers are using Instagram.”

This helps to justify the many hours I’m investing myself and for my clients.


“Facebook is declining: Marketers have been diversifying away from Facebook steadily since 2019.” AND “Facebook dominance is still strong: A very significant 93% of marketers use Facebook (followed by Instagram at 78%).”

I don’t think we can get away from Facebook completely. It’s a commodity in some ways, but it’s steadily losing ground as the dominant social platform for organic traffic.


“TikTok is ignored by most marketers: Only 9% of marketers are using TikTok.”

I’ve been going back and forth about investing time in TikTok. You have to know your audience really well and find out if they spend time there.
