Instagram Adds In-App Scheduling – FINALLY!

What's Happening

Since rumors began last Fall that Instagram was testing the ability to schedule your content within the app, I’ve been giddy with anticipation!

I placed this feature at the top of my list in last year’s 9 Instagram Features Marketers Need to Know post.

Honestly, I don’t know what the holdup has been. Twitter and Facebook have had this feature forever.

Normally I wouldn’t care because I employ third party scheduling services to schedule out most of my posts. However, Instagram didn’t give third party services permission to schedule Reels until recently and even then you couldn’t use the trending audio that helps boost your reach exponentially.

So, I was creating Reels drafts and relying on phone alarms to remind me to post – not the most fool-proof system. To my utter relief, you can now schedule posts AND Reels in-app!

Use it for Your Business

If you’ve never scheduled a post in your life, I’ll fill you in on why it’s a game-changer: You don’t need to be on the app to post. You can batch-create your content, schedule it out for the week, and say goodbye to hours wasted scrolling for inspiration.

If you’re interested in my system for planning, creating and scheduling your content – check out the Rhythm Social Media Planner!

How to Schedule A Reel or Post

  1. Open the Instagram app, tap the plus button and select Post or Reel.
  2. Select a photo or video and add a caption, effects and filters. Tap the arrow (Android) or Next (iOS).
  3. Scroll to the bottom and tap Advanced settings.
  4. Tap Schedule.
  5. Select a date and time up to 75 days away.
  6. Tap Done.
  7. Tap the back button.
  8. Tap Schedule to schedule the post or Reel.

You can also manage scheduled posts if you want to make a change via a Scheduled content option that will appear in the “hamburger” menu. See more detailed instructions here.

NOTE: You must have a professional account to get this feature (creator or business account), which I highly recommend you do. Switching your account type literally takes 5 seconds. Simply go to Settings > Account > Switch account type.

Relevancy Rating

Just because it's new doesn't mean it's worth your time: Is scheduling your Instagram posts worth your time?

Yes!: I give it 5 out of 5 thumbs up.

You’ll not only be amazed at the time you save but also by the peace of mind you gain!
