Instagram Tells You How to Make The Best ReelsOct 03, 2022
I listen to the platform itself over influencers when it comes to improving my content. So, when Instagram published a few handy guides to help you reach your business goals – you bet I’m taking notes!
One of the guides gives pointers on building an effective Reels ad. Whether or not you put advertising dollars behind your Reels, these tips are worth considering to improve your Reels’ overall performance.
Use it for Your Business
Your overall goal is to make Reels entertaining, digestible, and relatable.
A few tips on how to accomplish this:
- Format: Use the fullscreen, vertically orienting your video. And be aware of safe zones for where to place your content. A majority of the action should happen in the middle third of the screen.
- Visuals: Show your face! Reels with a “human presence in the creative (such as a face, person, or child) had a 25% higher click-through rate than those that did not.”
- Sound: Use music, voiceover or both: 80% of Reels are played with sound on!
- Message: Hook them in the first 5 seconds. Aim to inspire an emotional response by connecting to “their values, goals and ambitions.” Make your message more digestible by keeping text captions short and timed to appear at the appropriate intervals.
If I were to prioritize any of these tips, message would be my number one concern. If your audience doesn’t relate to the message, it doesn’t matter what music you put behind it or if your captions are cut off.
Know who you aim to help and what makes them tick. Find out what keeps them up at night and how you can eliminate those nightmares.
Trust me. If the messaging is right, they will line up to purchase anything you’re offering.
Just because it's new doesn't mean it's worth your time: Is using Instagram’s Reels tips worth your time?
Yes!: I give it 5 out of 5 thumbs up.
