Like Counts

What if like counts disappeared tomorrow?

This isn’t a rhetorical question. Instagram has been testing removing the like count feature from public view. You, as the account owner, would be able to see the like count but your followers would not.

In an interview, an Instagram executive said: “We are testing this because we want your followers to focus on the photos and videos you share, not how many likes they get.”

AMEN to that!

Other platforms have been testing changes that place more focus on the content you’re creating and make stats like follower count less obvious.

I am highly in favor of changes like these. It levels the playing field. Potential followers will evaluate what your posting to decide whether or not they follow you versus using follower count as a status symbol.

As long as the account owners are still able to see their stats and evaluate how to move forward, I think it’s great. Awesome side bonus: Maybe we’ll stop placing our value and worth in those numbers as well. #WinWin

Would you be in favor of these changes?
