What's Happening

So much on the Internet (and frankly in my life) has been heavy lately, so let’s talk about something FUN!

The 2022 Met Gala has been all over social media since Monday’s event. In fact, head of Instagram Adam Mosseri was one of the co-hosts. Coincidence? I think not!

Use it for Your Business

As with any trend, I encourage you to ask yourself four questions to make sure its a good fit for your business.

Then, let’s look at a few ways you could use the Met Gala in your social posts:

  • Riff off the theme: This year’s theme was In America: An Anthology of Fashion. If your business has anything to do with retail, fashion, American culture, American history, American industry or business in America – you’ll have a lot to talk about! One topic that has conservators in an uproar is Kim Kardashian wearing the actual dress Marilyn Monroe wore when singing “Happy Birthday, Mr. President.”
  • Meme it up: Met Gala outfits are designed to be performances of their own. Photos and videos of the celebrities making their way up the iconic staircase are just begging to be made into memes. Some of my favorites came from this account. This works even if your product has nothing to do with fashion.
  • A Play on Visuals: Instead of a play on words, stop the scroll with a visual comparison to your message or product. My favorite example so far is from my coaching client Kelley McNeil who compared Blake Lively’s dress to her book cover and even included a tie-in to her main character.

Relevancy Rating

Just because it's new doesn't mean it's worth your time: Is posting about the Met Gala worth your time?

Maybe: I give it 3 out of 5 thumbs up.

Posting about this trend could potentially give your engagement a temporary boost, but won’t make a huge difference to your overall account growth.
