What’s your unique slant?

Your unique way of seeing the world is what makes it interesting to us.

In the marketing world, I’ve also heard it said like this:

It’s not what you sell, it’s what you have to say about what you sell.

Take a company like Ink & Volt. Their main product is a planner. You can get a planner just about anywhere with a similar layout. Why do I choose to get mine from Ink & Volt? It’s what they have to say about how we should be planning our lives. I love how they incorporate the ability to include to-do lists and goal planning. I love that the company’s founder is a woman who created the planner because she couldn’t find what she was looking for and had to create it for herself.

Now, this isn’t a commercial for Ink & Volt, but a testimony to the power of slant, the particular way they see the world, the values their company holds – align with mine.

This is how you create raving fans. You have to take a stand. You have to be vulnerable and tell us what you’re really about.

Instagram is a perfect place to do this. This social media platform is primarily a branding platform, which means, this is where your audience and potential customers get to know who you are. Since you can’t link directly to anything, they can’t go to your website to find out more. You have to communicate through images and words what you’re all about. 

It’s where your relationship starts. Instagram is like dating for companies. And, you want to make sure that first impression is a good one.
