Don’t Be Surprised TikTok Trend + Bonus Tip!

What's Happening

TikTokers are fantasizing about where their impulses would take them if they let the impulses take over. The sound starts off with a man saying “Don’t be surprised if one day I just…” and then 5 seconds of music. That’s right. The whole video is only 7 seconds long.

If you’re an Instagram Reels person, you could get ahead of this trend night now! I posted it on TikTok 16 hours ago and it got much more traction than my other videos (admittedly I don’t post there much). I also posted a version on Reels and it’s performing strong even though it’s not popular on Reels yet.

Even if you don’t post on TikTok, download it to see the trends before they reach Instagram. TikTok invented this engaging bite-sized video format and they are still the leader in creating the trends. TikTok makes it very easy to see what’s trending in the Discover tab.

If you find one you like, you can either look up the same song on Instagram or you can usually find the original audio if you search the hashtag it’s associated with on TikTok.

Use it for Your Business

I noticed a few TikTok users who have personal brands or represent businesses using this trend well:

  • This doctor may just make a permanent move to Africa for relief work.
  • This volunteer organization reshared one from their ambassador. A great idea to highlight your customer’s/volunteer’s experiences!
  • This wildlife artist used the trend to announce a new service for pet portraits.
  • Even a reality show got in on the action to show the fantasy of becoming a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader come to life.

Relevancy Rating

Just because it's new doesn't mean it's worth your time: Is using the Don’t Be Surprised trend worth your time?

MAYBE!: I give it 3 out of 5 thumbs up.

A 3 Rating Means: You have a 50/50 chance of this trend making a difference. Don’t prioritize it over mission-critical strategies, but it could be worth testing.
