Instagram Launches a Shop Tab
Nov 23, 2020What’s Happening
Instagram introduced shops in 2017 and, earlier this year, allowed you to tag a product in a post. The update to accounts this week adds a shopping tab to bring the shopping experience front and center. The tab curates items you’ll enjoy based on the Instagram algorithm.
A quick scroll through the posts on my tab and, yeah, Instagram gets me.
This week was a huge one for updates to different platforms. Choosing just one feature to include here was a challenge. So, I went with the one I feel would be most impactful for your business, especially if you have physical products to sell.
Side Note: I REALLY wish Instagram would allow shopping for digital products and services, but alas, we’ll have to wait patiently for that feature.
Another Side Note: I realize all features are not rolled out to everyone at the same time, so if you don’t have this feature yet, it’s coming soon!
Use it for Your Business
The great news is this requires no extra effort on the shop owner’s behalf. The platform itself is giving you a huge boost by redesigning its user experience. However, if you have physical products to sell and you haven’t set up an Instagram shop, get on it!
Instagram now also allows you to tag your product in a Live video. If your mom watched as many hours of the Home Shopping Network as mine did growing up, you’ve imagined yourself demonstrating the features of the latest microwave oven a time or two. Your time has arrived! Create your own shopping channel in Instagram Live videos.
Relevancy Rating
Just because it’s new doesn’t mean it’s worth your time.
Is creating an Instagram shop worth the time investment for your business?
YES!: I give it 5 out of 5 thumbs up.
Time investment on it is critical to growing your social media following. You won’t regret it!
I feel like there’s no need to explain any further. Utilizing the Instagram shop feature is a no-brainer!
